Wind: Pre-Installation Site Assessment

Site assessment for wind systems is a critically important area that is often overlooked and under analysed. From micro wind to industrial installations, every wind system represents a significant investment and due diligence is a vital part of the planning process. However, with a variety of available assessment methods how can organisations be sure that their assessment is accurate? Which tools achieve the highest levels of accuracy and what methods are valid?

Small wind systems actually present the installer with an even more complicated set of variables than industrial sized turbines, yet site assessment is markedly inferior, and results display far lower levels of accuracy. At lower heights turbulence intensity, un-predictability and wind direction turbulence are much higher. Wind energy feasibility assessments need to be as professional as industrial wind in order to provide the customer with a sound investment. By choosing the right technology and the right knowledge we can have a much greater confidence in wind site analysis results; only with qualified data can we differentiate products, quality of installation and most of all due diligence on project management.
