Logic Energy travelled to Dallas, Texas for the Windpower 2010 trade show and took part in the world’s largest wind energy conference, which included a speech by former US President George W. Bush and just over 20,000 attendees. The conference focused on a secure energy future with wind power making an increasingly important contribution to energy generation all over the globe.
Despite centring on wind power in the United States, there was a large international presence. Exhibitors came from 22 countries including Germany, Canada, Denmark, China, and the UK to display their products and services and a vast number of new projects and products were unveiled.
Logic Energy gave organisations the opportunity to learn more about the importance of live monitoring for wind turbines and projects of all sizes. One issue that is often overlooked is the importance of pre-site assessment and the profiling of wind characteristics. It is vital for customers to obtain accurate pre-installation statistics to ensure that the wind profile matches the manufacturer’s specifications; if the wind profile does not match then the turbine warranty is invalidated and could cost the customer huge amounts of money in servicing and repairs. Above all else, if comprehensive pre-site assessment isn’t carried out then wind turbines will not perform to expectations.
The exhibition was also significant as an all time record for wind power production was set in Texas, at the opening of the conference. 6,721 megawatts was produced on the afternoon of May 23rd, which met 14% of peak electricity demand that day. Texas is the biggest producer of wind in the United States, with energy being produced over 40 different projects throughout the state. Texas is also home to some of the largest wind farms in the world, and the wind market continues to grow with exhibitions such as Windpower 2010 proving the substantial enthusiasm for the renewable technology.
